The first Green Caravan of the World
La Vuelta originated in Spain and is a bicycle race over the course of multiple days. This event was then brought to other countries, such as Portugal or France and has now also arrived in the Netherlands. Traditionally, an advertising caravan accompagnies the race of La Vuelta Holanda, like many other (bicycle) races. With sustainability becoming a more important topic in the event and the sport event industry, the organization of La Vuelta Holanda decided to organize the first Green Caravan for the first edition of La Vuelta Holanda. This meant not only that all cars in the caravan were electric or powered by hydrogen, but also that these cars needed to be charged at the end of the day. The bicycle race took place over a course of three days and a distance of about 390 km. With the start in Utrecht, the continuation in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and the last stop Breda, the cyclists were able to see the beautiful landscape of Utrecht and Brabant. At each finish square in the three different cities, the charging stations for the electric cars were placed and a reliable and mobile source of electricity was necessary for all three days.

La Vuelta Holanda partnered up with More2Win, an organization that aims to use sport to make the world a better place regarding different aspects, such as sustainability, integration, and poverty. More2Win was also responsible for the sustainability goals of the race and the Green Caravan. They chose for the energy solution by Greener due to the flexibility of mobile batteries and the clean energy they can supply without a drop of diesel. To accommodate the electric cars at each stop, three of our Greener batteries were placed on the finish square in each city. There the batteries were connected to twelve 50 kW fast chargers to charge all 27 electric cars. Since the race was spread out over three days, the mobile batteries were transported from each city to the next to ensure a reliable energy supply. This way, a 100% Green Caravan was made possible with a Greener energy supply.
Enormously proud of the world’s first Green Caravan, as a sustainable alternative to the traditional recalame caravan. Together with Greener, we ensured that over 30 vehicles rode along during the three stages of La Vuelta, without using a single litre of diesel!
