48 EV chargers without appropriate energy supply
For the car launch of a new electric car by Skoda, the Skoda Enyaq, a total of 48 AC chargers, 24 EV chargers per location, were needed. These chargers are all equipped with two Plug Type 2 connectors each and can therefore charge 96 electric cars simultaneously. The event was taking place at two locations in Italy: the Grosseto Airport and the Argentario Golf Resort & Spa, where the new car was shown to the car dealers and taken for test drives. However, at one location the available grid connection cannot provide the necessary power for all EV chargers, while on the other location, there is always still the risk of power failure. Since the event is all about electric cars, zero emission and sustainability, a diesel generator producing direct emissions right next to the electric cars and EV chargers is not an acceptable solution. Therefore, the supplier of the EV chargers for the event ejoin EU was searching for a different way to secure the energy supply in a green way.
Green energy with mobile batteries
To provide the necessary power on location without the need for a diesel generator, four Greener mobile batteries were chosen, two for each location. While the first two batteries are peak shaving with the small grid connection, at the second location the batteries are used as a back-up energy source in case of a power failure or any other problems. When peak shaving, the grid connection still provides the energy, and the battery is used as a buffer to deliver the power peaks when necessary. With this green solution, no diesel generator is needed, and no direct emissions are produced. Furthermore, the batteries are quiet and produce no unpleasant smells. This way, the event visitors can enjoy the fully charged electric cars and the smooth ride.
