For a temporary housing park that would receive a grid connection only two months after it would open, Greener provided a diesel hybrid set-up that saved over 50% on fuel consumption. This way they were able to bridge the time until the delayed grid connection was delivered.
Problem: delayed grid connections
Getting a grid connection installed in time can be a lengthy and challenging process. With the current growth in electrification, grid operators are often struggling to keep up with the demand for extended capacity and access to the grid. The result are delayed grid connections. For a temporary housing park near Venlo the grid connection came 3 months late, which meant that power to the park had to be provided with a diesel generator.
Solution: battery powered smart grids
After concluding that the project developer was planning to burn at least 120 liters of diesel per hour, we we proposed a battery solution in which peak shaving would save at least half of the expected diesel fuel consumption. Eventually a hybrid solution with two diesel generators and three batteries provided smooth energy production, which saved over 70,000 litres of diesel fuel during a period of three months.
